Transfer and Change of Registrant Policy

Version 1.0 · Effective 2026-08-26 · English

How to move a domain in or out, and how ownership changes are handled.

1. Two different things

A registrar transfer moves the domain from one registrar to another. The domain holder stays the same.

A change of registrant changes who owns the domain. This can be done with or without a registrar transfer.

2. Auth code (EPP code)

You can request the auth code for any domain you hold with us from your domain panel, free of charge. We release it after confirming your identity, normally within one business day.

3. Transfer locks

Registries lock a domain for 60 days after registration, after an inbound transfer, and in many cases after a change of registrant. We cannot override registry locks.

You can enable or disable the transfer lock yourself in the domain panel when no registry lock applies.

4. Timing

Once approved, a transfer normally completes within 5 days for gTLDs. .ae transfers follow the .aeDA process and may differ.

5. Expiry effects

A transfer of an expired or expiring domain may fail. Renew first, then transfer. Remaining registration time is normally carried over and a transfer usually adds one year.

6. Change of registrant

Change of registrant may require confirmation from both the current and the new holder through the Designated Agent process operated by the sponsoring registrar, in line with the ICANN Transfer Policy and the applicable registry rules.

7. Cost

We do not charge for outbound transfers or auth codes. Inbound transfers are charged at the published transfer price for the extension, which normally includes one additional year.

BuyADomain.ae is a domain name reseller operated in the UAE under trade licence no. 47033817. Domain registrations are supplied through Hosting Concepts B.V., trading as Openprovider, which acts as the sponsoring registrar. Openprovider is ICANN-accredited for generic top-level domains and .aeDA-accredited for .ae domains. BuyADomain.ae is not an ICANN- or .aeDA-accredited registrar.
